Neither Snow nor Sleet…

We are having quite a snow filled February. Thursday, February 13 produced 14+ inches of snow closing Eastern Christian campuses for the third time this month and the fourth time this winter! Then, overnight into Friday, February 14, a couple of inches of snow caused slick, snow covered roads closing many schools in our area. But for ECS, no students were scheduled for that day because that day had been scheduled as a teacher in-service day.

“Neither snow nor sleet …” would keep our teachers from their appointed duties! All Eastern Christian teachers gathered at the high school campus for a day of meetings and curriculum work as well as a special luncheon for all staff celebrating the honor of being recognized as a “New Jersey District of Character.”

A special luncheon honored Kindergarten Teacher Donna Holly, ECMS Dean of Students Mary Faber, and ECHS Art Teacher Jesse Wright, who spearheaded the school’s portfolio application that demonstrated excellence in eleven principles of effective character education.

Across the country, 44 schools and four school districts were recognized for excellence in character education. Due to the New Jersey State recognition, Eastern Christian School’s application has now been forwarded to the Character Education Partnership (CEP) in Washington, D.C. for consideration in the National Schools of Character Program.

The special luncheon also celebrated the influence everyone – support staff and instructional staff – has had in living out our core values of “Pursuing the character of Christ by: Seeking Truth, Serving Others, Embracing Community, Exhibiting Compassion, Developing Responsibility, and Striving for Excellence.”
