In compliance with the governor’s mandate, we need to start the year with masks. We recognize that many of our youngest students are transitioning to school for the first time and acclimating to wearing a mask for a longer stretch of time.
Teaching through masks isn’t our preferred way of educating students. We’d like a safe, healthy way to have school like it was in 2019 before anyone had even heard of COVID-19. Unfortunately, Governor Murphy and the local state governing bodies and health offices have mandated that we aren’t there yet. But we’ve learned a lot about teaching in the midst of a pandemic, and we’ve learned a lot of great ways to actually thrive- even with masks on in the classroom.
As you try to envision your child wearing a mask at school, we would like to share two resources that we hope will provide a little insight into what wearing masks at school looks like for our youngest learners. Check out both videos in this post for a clearer understanding.
