Welcome, Soli Nieves!

Eastern Christian School is pleased to welcome Soli Nieves as a high school history teacher.

Soli holds a bachelors in science and arts in psychology and a minor in journalism. She is also in the process of obtaining a masters in divinity from Alliance Theological Seminary with a missions focus. Soli is married to Steven Nieves; together, they have a dog named Kobe. Soli is passionate about serving and living a missional life. Soli has traveled overseas to Haiti, Africa and Southeast Asia, leading mission teams and growing in her understanding of culture and Jesus. When Soli isn’t teaching, you may find her reading, cooking and experimenting with new food and hanging out with friends and family. Soli has been a lifelong New Jersey resident and attends The Plant Church where she and her husband serve as worship leaders.

I live in Rockaway, NJ. I love to sing, play sports and exercise. My hobby is paintball when I get the chance! 

Tell us the story of how God brought you to EC

I was actually working as a paraprofessional at EC’s Midland Park campus for second grade. I was transitioning out of a completely different vocation when I arrived at EC. I wanted to make a switch to teaching but wasn’t sure how to. I have had experience teaching in overseas settings but to teach in the US would be a first. I was sure that I would be “disqualified” for this type of role. However, I received a call after Dan Cirone, the high school principal, had spoken to Sandy Bottge at the elementary school and was encouraged to interview for this position. I was nervous and scared because I knew this was an answered prayer from God. He was asking me to take a HUGE leap of faith, and I said yes. Now here I am.

What sets EC apart?

I worked previously at a private Christian college. What differs is that there is assurance on the Gospel and what the word states. I appreciate the “standing firm” in the beliefs that EC holds, but also that EC gives room for God to work in the students’ lives. I am just getting to know my students, but to be able to speak with them about God and also their honest place in life with God has been amazing. I saw God working in EC students in chapel today. I saw kids go up, wanting to see God move and see a miracle in their lives. That was breath-taking to see God move for his people, no matter what stage, age and position.
